The key to Sermeta’s success: the hydroformed coil
Innovations
Invented in 1993 by Jo Le Mer, Sermeta’s founder, tube hydroforming revolutionized the design of heat exchangers for condensing gas boilers. This major innovation has been at the heart of all our heat exchangers ever since.
Coil manufacture - the hydroformed coil production process
Every day, we transform over 77 tonnes of stainless steel reels into straight tubes. These are then bent and hydroformed in our hydroforming presses, developed and designed in-house.
The industrial process of hydroforming consists in deforming a part using a fluid under high pressure. Sermeta’s hydroformed tubes therefore feature corrugations (regular undulations), guaranteeing constant spacing between the tubes.
The 10,000 heat exchangers produced by Sermeta every day are all fitted with hydroformed tubes.
Sermeta hydroformed coils: a cutting edge technology
Based on water tube technology, Sermeta heat exchangers benefit from hydroformed coils, guaranteeing constant spacing between coils, thanks to regular corrugations, even under high pressure.
The advantages of Sermeta hydroformed coils:
Performance: constant spacing between coils optimizes heat exchange.
Enhanced reliability: The corrugations are integrated into the tube, without the addition of external parts, considerably reducing the risk of failure.
Long service life: Hydroforming reduces fouling, facilitating maintenance and extending equipment life.
Optimized efficiency: Improved heat transfer reduces flue gas losses.
A founding innovation
The hydroformed tube is not just a technological innovation: it has been the cornerstone of Sermeta’s industrial success for over 30 years. By fully internalizing its design and manufacture, Sermeta controls every stage, guaranteeing outstanding quality to enhance thermal and energy performance.
